Summer Bisley Event 2015

The weather was good to us on what could have been a damp day. Our first ‘summer’ event went off a dream. This time it was called the Double Challenge as each shooter would be required to shoot both small and full bore rifles on two sets of cards. Whilst a small administrative error meant some shooters failed to bring both rifles it did not precluded them from taking part. Thanks to all who dedicated their time to specific functions such as butts and catering.

May ‘Open Day’ on the 16th

Don’t forget we are again opening the range to non-members to come and have a go at target shooting.
We will be open from 1-5pm – 16th May 2015

All safety equipment will be supplied. Total cost is £5 inclusive of refreshments

There is no restrictions on age as long as one can safely hold a rifle and fire without harming oneself. In general most average size children can shoot from the age of 10 with parentaly supervision.

Everyone attending these open days will be supervised on a one-on-one basis by a trained instructor.

Anyone wishing to attend under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Bisley fun day out (Spring).

Next month, Sunday 10th May the club will be having one of its full days out at Bisley. This is an open day so non-club members can attend but only with prior arrangement.

We make these days away from the indoor range family days. We provide a hot lunch in the form of a BBQ and even a breakfast for those arriving early to set up.

Once the competition begins we start off with a traditional 100m bulls eye target and then after a random selection of shapes (pigeon, rabbit, turkey and even a plane). The idea is to break that traditional sight pattern. Highest aggregate score for the day is the winner.

We conclude with a knockout competition known as the cracker shoot. Each team engages a target of three closely positioned frangible targets (normally tea biscuits). The order they are broken in is strictly controlled and the first team to break all three is the winner of that heat and proceeds to the next round. This continues until the overall fastest team succeeds. Great fun but can be expensive on ammunition if you’re a bad shot 🙁

All concludes with the ceremonial prise giving

Open Day a success and the next announced.

The March 2015 open day was a success with a significant number of people visiting the range. It lovely to see people achieve something they thought was impossible. To shoot a rifle and get a good score is something to be proud of.
Again we will repeat this in a couple of months on Saturday 16th May 2015. We will be open from 1-5pm
